A very brief survey of status and prospects of freshwater sturgeon farming in Europe (EEC)

Few papers have been published on sturgeon farming in western Europe and they relate to only 2 to 3 sturgeon species out of the 24 normally existing in the world. According to the request of the organizers of this workshop, this paper is a short survey of the subject, including some hasty generalisations. Successively, we set out the most representative data on the following topics : state of production, production systems and zootechnology, economics and prospects. / Peu d'articles ont été publiés sur l'élevage d'esturgeons en Europe occidentale et ils ne concernent que 2 ou 3 espèces d'esturgeons sur les 24 espèces existantes. A la demande des organisateurs de cet atelier, cet article présente une brève étude du sujet y compris certaines généralisations hâtives. Nous avons passé en revue les données les plus représentatives des sujets suivants : niveau de production, systèmes de production et zootechnologie, économie et perspectives.
