EFFECT OF SLUDGE FASTING/FEASTING ON GROWTH OF ACTIVATED SLUDGE CULTURES

Growth of activated sludge cultures under oxic and anoxic conditions. Different biological reactors working under several operating conditions (oxygen levels, continuous or intermittently cultures) were tested. With an experimental procedure using glucose based synthetic wastewater, the influence of carbohydrate storage by bacteria on the acceleration of biomass growth and substrate removal were shown.
