EFFECT OF CELL PHYSICOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND MOTILITY ON BACTERIAL TRANSPORT IN GROUNDWATER

BECKER M. W. / COLLINS S. A. / METGE D. W. / et al. - ARTICLE DE PERIODIQUE - 2004
Experimental method and bacterial strains used as tracers in field. Bromide is used as a conservative solute tracer. Flow-through column experiments are packed with glass beads. The one-dimensional transport model is used to interpret the bacterial adhesion. Functions of adsorption and detachment rate of cells are discussed with transport equation. Breakthrough results experiments are compared with bromide tracer and iron-oxyhydroxide coated glass experiments. Model is compared to measured breakthrough concentration of non-motile rod bacteria at high and low flow rates. Model parameters corresponding to best fit of model to breakthrough data. Effect of iron-oxyhydroxide coatings on Gram negative and Gram positive rod bacteria.
