ANALYSIS OF DRINKINTG WATER AND WASTEWATER SERVICES IN EIGHT EUROPEAN CAPITALS : THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PERSPECTIVE
The study presents an analysis of eight capital cities of the European Union: Amsterdam, Athens, Berlin (prior to enlargement), London, Madrid, Rome, Paris and Stockholm. One of the study's underlying principles is to place each service in its respective context. The work was undertaken in two stages. First, we developed a methodology to analyse
sustainable development along four key dimensions: economic sustainability, environmental sustainability, social sustainability and ethics (or welfare for society). In the second phase, we tested the proposed evaluation model in the field, in the eight European capitals.
