ANALYSE UND AUSWEISUNG NATURRAUMLICHER FLUSSTYPEN OSTERREICHS=ANALYSIS AND IDENTIFICATION OF RIVELANDSCAPE TYPES IN AUSTRIA

Classifying and identifying types of river landscape is among the main tasks of river basin evaluation and planning. Various typology approaches are being tested for Austria as well as for other European countries. This article is another contribution to the discussion of this subject. The purpose of this study has been to characterise all major rivers in Austria according to abiotic criteria. The hierarchical approach allowed for features such as stream size, altitude, potential morphological river type, width of potential floodplain, and slope.
