Real scale experimentation on the bottom and slope lining of municipal landfill

The municipal waste landfill of Montreuil sur Barse is used to study the behaviour of four different landfill bottom and slope liner systems (compacted clay, HDPE geomembrane, bentonite membrane, composite clay/ HDPE geomembrane liner). The study is mainly based on the leakage rate control by means of a double liner system. The leachate flow and hydraulic head in each cell, the temperature of the geosynthetics, the settlement of the waste and the displacement of the geosynthetics and their protection on the slopes are also monitored. The paper describes the design and installation procedures with a special focuss on the quality assurance plan.
