We are currently witnessing, on the deposits, the same evolution towards an increase in the tonnage as we already witnessed in the past with sailing ships. The first steam fishing boat launched in 1872 in Boulogne, the Stuart, was 19.23 m long. Its financial failure stopped for a few years the adoption of steam trawlers in England, Germany and France.
