Orama nui : a programme for an observatory of marine resources and activities in the Pacific Islands Countries

The "ORAMA NUI" programme has been developed by the Territory of French Polynesia and IFREMER, both partners in SPT since 1988. It first aims at alleviating some bottlenecks, mainly in the coastal and lagoon economic development process, by use of satellite and computer technologies; then after four years of activities, it seeks to create opportunities for cooperative development projects involving one or several French territory and/or one or several island country in the Pacific region. After presenting the background, objectives, and bases of the programme, the paper comments on the rules set by EC for co-financing cooperative development projects involving at least one French overseas territory.
