Le dragage des huîtres portugaises en gironde
To sum up, the Gironde River estuary, the main Portuguese oyster production area, is visited each year by a large number of boats which come for a few days to dredge its natural deposits. The gradual increase of their number and of the efficiency of the fishing gear, as well as the fluctuating fishing performance show the need to define the basis of a rational exploitation in order to protect these oyster banks. Based on the data collected from 1956 to 1958 we set up a work schedule for the visitation commission which should meet at the end of winter, and we put figures on the assessment basis that should help this commission to determine the duration and intensity of each year's exploitation.
