La modélisation des systèmes d'information. Application à la conception des bases de données traduction automatique : du modèle relationnel au modèle orienté objet
The Information Systems design become more and more complex, designers do not always find the most efficient solutions using traditional methods. The design of an Information System and the development of a database application presume the presence of a Conceptual Model, which role is to translate the part of the real word the system will manage. The Object Oriented systems have significant advantages in mananing this complexity. They inherit from semantic systems, from complex object systems and from advanced computer science techniques (modularity, dynamic late binding, etc). Current trends in Database technology include Object Oriented Database Management Systems (OO DBMS) as the most promising technology for the next generation of DBMS. However, the design of Object Oriented Database still needs formal foundations. The goal of this paper is to propose a formal design method for static object oriented schemata, using Universal Relation with Inclusions (URI) conceptual model. URI model provides a good static description of information, cumulating advantages from relational and semantic models. The proposed method generates classes automatically, and structures them ; specific database treatments are taken into account to choose optimal schema. This method is used in UNESCO FRIEND Project (Theme I : Database) to design Hydrological and Hydroecological Information Systems.
