Implementation of a probability model for renewal of drinking water networks

Taking into account the ageing of drinking water networks and costs concerned for their rehabilitation, the operators have now to elaborate decision-making aids as regards renewal. This is the aim of the implementation of a forecasting model of the failures of drinking water mains. The predicted failures for a medium period from the model (10 years) are well fixed compared to reality and it's possible to treat on a hierarchical basis the mains according to their default risk. Various options of assistance to management are presented : estimate of the state of a network for a short and medium period, integration in a policy of renewal / Compte-tenu du vieillissement des réseaux, et notamment d'eau potable, et des sommes mises en jeu pour leur rénovation, les exploitants doivent dès à présent élaborer des aides à la décision en matière de renouvellement. La mise en oeuvre d'un modèle de prévision des défaillances des conduites d'eau potable va dans ce sens. Les défaillances prévues à moyen terme à partir du modèle (10 ans) sont bien calées par rapport à la réalité, permettant de hiérarchiser les conduites suivant leur risque de défaillance. Différentes options d'aide à la gestion sont présentées : estimation de l'état d'un réseau à court et moyen terme, intégration dans une politique de renouvellement.
