FRAGFORNET: A network of experts on forest fragmentation and biodiversity loss in South America

FragforNET is a North-South network platform to communicate, disseminate and archive information and knowledge on forest fragmentation and biodiversity loss. FragForNet has a group advocated to provide support on information systems and documentation. The activities of this support group focus on: i) development of communication tools, ii) facilitation of information access and iii) enhancement of the identification of documentary centres and specialised libraries by the creation of a common directory. Librarians within the network, organise the access to knowledge. They target the specific resources for users needs within the network. After almost two year of existence the symposium will serve as a forum to exchange ideas in the light of results achieved up to date and user's needs. Actions for the near future could be developed in two ways: First of all we must know the user's information needs; a survey will be planned. Secondly, publishing needs must be discussed. Research institutions in our countries could be contacted to consider low rate publishing for the network. Others issues in open access publishing can be developed. Librarians can find tools and open access services.
