Contribution to the study of freshwater diatoms of Praslin and Mahé islands (Seychelles) and Mauritius island

The taxonomy of slightly brackish and freshwater diatoms of Praslin and Mahé islands (Seychelles) and Mauritius island in the Indian Ocean was investigated. 52 benthic and periphytic diatoms samples were collected in july and august 1981 at 31 sampling stations. The diatom flora of Seychelles islands is acidophilous and poorly diversified with two dominant genus : Frustulia and Eunotia. Most of the taxa found in Seychelles are present in Mauritius where species diversity is increasing. About 250 species and varieties were recorded and ten of them are deem to be described for the first time. Diatom material is examined under light and electron microscopes. / Un premier inventaire des diatomées d'eau douce et saumâtre de l'Ile Maurice et des Seychelles (Mahé et Praslin) est réalisé à partir de 52 prélèvements effectués sur plus de 30 stations. La microflore diatomique paraît essentiellement acidophile et peu diversifiée dans les Iles Seychelles. Prés de 250 taxons ont été répertoriés parmi lesquels une dizaine ont été considérés comme nouveaux pour la science. Les observations ont été réalisés en microscopie photonique et électronique à balayage et à transmission.
