Contribution a l'étude biologique des sardinelles : étude de la variabilité d'un caractère méristique: le nombre de branchiospines

This note reports results from a meristics study that determined the number of gill rakers from a sample of 317 Sardinella eba and 262 S. aurita from the Pointe-Noire region in Central Africa. A linear regression analysis showed that the number of gill rakers does not increase linearly with age. Increases in the number of gill rakers are intermittent, with resting periods followed by active organogenetic periods when new gill rakers are formed....
