Bilan des essais d'élevage du pétoncle noir, Chlamys vria (Linné) dans le Bassin d'Arcachon France
Until 1960, the black scallop Chlamys varia (Linné, 1758) was largely distributed over the French Atlantic coast. Nowadays, most of the deposits are gone. Since controlled mollusc reproduction techniques are now relatively mastered, some reimplatation attempts have been conducted on a number of oyster culture sites, including the Arcachon Bay, from 1989 to 1992. Despite some good results in hatchery and nursery, the rearing attempts failed. If some good growth rates have been monitored in the Arcachon Bay over these three years, these performances have been frustrated by very high mortality rates occurring shortly after the setting up of the farms. Although this species is known to be relatively sensitive to environmental factors, the hydrobiological conditions in the Bay at this time of the year cannot be liable for these results. Chlamys varia seems not to support the different manipulations (short emersion, unclustering), very difficult to avoid in an aquaculture cycle.
