ROLE OF DISINFECTION IN SUPPRESSING THE SPREAD OF PATHOGENS WITH DRINKING WATER : POSSIBILITIES AND LIMITATIONS
Chlorination of drinking water has contributed to reduction of typhoid fever mortality from the beginning of the 19th century, all over the world, especially in the United States and Germany. However chemical disinfection of drinking water cannot replace filtration, even small fecal particles can thus be eliminated reliably from water.
