A PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT OF THE USE OF PARTICLE COUNTERS FOR MONITORING THE RISK OF CRYPTOSPORIDIUM AND GIARDIA

Project of the use of online particule counters for oocysts in water treatment works. Evidence of non relationship between particule counts and the occasional low-level cryto oocyst and giardia oocyst occurence in the filter samples. There are too many parameters such as raw-water conditions, environmental factors and traitement-plants which make the inter-relationship very complexe. Particule counts should not be used as an analogue of cryptoposridium and giardia breakthrough.
