POTENCY AND CHARACTERIZATION OF ESTROGEN-RECEPTOR AGONISTS IN UNITED KINGDOM ESTUARINE SEDIMENTS

Determination of the in vitro estrogenic activity of compounds in sediments sampled from UK estuaries using the in vitro recombinant yeast estrogen screen (YES assay). The present study has shown the value of such an approach in establishing whether environmental samples are contaminated with specific classes of compounds that otherwise may not be detected by conventional targeted chemical analysis.
