ORGANIC MATTER FOULING OF ULTRAFILTRATION MEMBRANES
Identification through atomic force microscopy and confirmation through scanning electron microscopy of the natural organic matter fractions responsible for fouling low pressure microfiltration and ultrafiltration cellulose and polyetherethersulfone membranes. The resulting organic colloidal fraction (bacterial peptidoglycan residue) shows the most significant fouling. The membrane roughness is a key physical parameter in membrane fouling.
