FORMATION AND DEGRADATION OF DICHLOROACETONITRILE IN DRINKING WATERS
Dichloroacetonitrile (DCAN) formation in drinking water. DCAN is a reactive disinfection by-product due to chlorination of water loaded with natural organic matters and proteinaceous materials. Mechanisms and pathways of hydrolysis are described including attacks by hydroxide and hypochloride solutions. Kinetic models are proposed.
