EVALUATION OF SUBSTRATE CLOGGING PROCESSES IN VERTICAL FLOW CONSTRUCTED WETLANDS
Clogging of wetlands. In vertical flow constructed wetlands, the main problem is the clogging which reduce the infiltration capacities. This phenomenon is due to suspended solid accumulation, sludge production, precipitation, growth of roots and compaction. The study was performed in a pilot unit. Influences of different operating conditions are discussed and a model is proposed to calculate the theoretical clogging time.
