History of river water purification plants (RWPP) in Japan with contact oxidation or membrane technologies. Characteristics of those techniques which directly treat river water used in urban and suburban areas as well as in megapoles. Level of quality of treatment reached in the removal of organic matter but also in the removal of colored materials and nutrients.
