EFFECT OF WASHWATER CHEMISTRY AND DELAYED START ON FILTER RIPENING
Delayed start is an operational procedure aimed at reducing the negative effect of the filter ripening sequence (FRS) on the quality of filtered water. The delayed start procedure has been evaluated under a variety of conditions and provide insights into the mechanisms behind the FRS. Experiments were conducted at both pilot and plant scales. Polyphosphates in the backwash water were shown to negatively affect filtered water quality immediately after back-washing.
