DEVELOPMENT TRAJECTORIES OF RIVER BASINS. A CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

Several approaches are presented to conceptualize river basin development. It makes a distinction between several categories of water sources, provides additional insight into how water resources are put into use and are controlled. A typology of responses to water scarcity and a review of some crucial aspects of river basin development are then used to devise a new framework.
