CONTROL OF NUISANCE CHIRONOMID MIDGE SWARMS FROM A SLOW SAND FILTER
Control of chironomid midges. Insecticide permethrin was used to remove nuisances due to chironomid midges in slow sand filtrations. Results show that permethrin is rapidly dispersed in water and accumulated onto sand surface. Then a breakthrough is found but the insecticide concentration decreases after 48 h. A single treatment was effective to eliminate chironomid midge emergencies.
