A COMPARISON OF LABORATORY AND PILOT PLANT EXPERIMENTS ON THE COMBINATION OF FLOCCULATION/ULTRAFILTRATION FOR DIRECT POTABLE WATER TREATMENT OF RIVER WATER
Experimental work were carried out while dosing different coagulants (PACl, FeCl) at various pH values and concentrations to investigate their influence on the build-up of the coating layers for the direct treatment of surface waters by ultrafiltration after flocculation. The treatment steps delivered sufficient dissolved organic carbon removal rates and the operating performances on the investigated pilot plants gave satisfactory results. The backwashing procedure however remains an option to be used during heavy rainfalls or snow melts.
