BALTIC SEA HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES MANAGEMENT: RESULTS AND CHALLENGES

Principle achievements on hazardous substances and discussion on continuing challenges for regional hazardous substance pollution control around the Baltic Sea. Helsinki Commission (HELCOM) actions and results are presented and assessed: past actions having positive effects on improving Baltic environmental quality and reducing human health risks are highlighted whereas issues and difficulties remain. Thus, four related future challenges are identified and discussed.
