Operating experience of a short-term aerobic biological treatment of the city of Lübeck wastewater by sulphate-reducing bacteria before it is pumped into a pressure pipe so as to inhibit the formation of sulphides and reduce odour nuisances, in years 2000 and 2001. Testing results of the pilot plant using a rotating biological contactor and needing no preliminary mechanical treatment. This method requiring no chemical ad-ups proves very cost effective.
