"Akshaydhara" - adopted from Sanskrit, means pristine, perennial flow. The key element of this approach is the manipulation of shallow depth (<20m) soil-aquifer system to effect renovation of storm- and domestic waste- water and its subsequent transmission to surface water bodies through natural subsurface flow, maintaining their pristine quality perennially.
To the planner it would mean optimal utilisation of scarce resources and improvement in general hygiene and availability of requisite quantity of water of a quality commensurate with its intended use, thereby ensuring sustainability through reduced costs of infra-structure development and maintenance of water supply and sewerage network.
